SFA professor Selma Alispahić won the Actress of Europe Award


Sarajevo Film Academy is proud of the latest accolade of our core professor and creative powerhouse, Selma Alispahić. The Artistic Committee of the International Theater Festival Actor of Europe, with its president Jordan Plevnes gave the honorary award Actress of Europe 2018 to Selma Alispahić. This Festival is one of the most important festivals in Macedonia - in addition to selected theaters, it gathers important theater artists from all over the world. The award was established in 2003 and has been presented to: Rade Šerbedžija, Anastas Pop Dimitrov, Marcel Bozonnet, Bruce Mayers, Ljuba Tadić, Ion Caramitru, among others.

Selma Alispahić graduated acting in Sarajevo in 1990 as the best student of her generation. With a PhD in literary history sciences, Selma Alispahić is the core professor at SFA where she teaches courses Working with Actors and Film and Society. Selma lived and worked in London where she played at the Royal National Theatre, Theatre de Complicite, Royal Festival Hall. She collaborated with internationally accomplished actors such as James Fox, Jane Birkin, Rosemary Harris, Faith Brook, Rupert Frazer, Rade Šerbedžija, as well as with prominent directors such as Simon McBurney, Tim Supple, Annie Castledine, David Freeman. Apart of her status of the Principal Actress at the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR), Selma was cast for internationally awarded short and feature films such as The Frog, Milky Way, Elgar's Tenth Muse, Broken Mussels, Neverending Story, Selam, Secrets from the Past. She is also a regular reader of the books at the Library for Blind and Visually Impaired People.

Among other accolades, Selma is included in the book Create: How Extraordinary People Live to Create and Create to Live, a book of interviews with world’s famous artists such as: Robert Willson, Tadashi Suzuki, Alec Baldwin, Christopher Plummer, Robert LePage, Anne Bogart, Ben Gazzara, Edward Albee, Carol Burnett, Eve Ensler, Tony Randall.
